Twenty Years of Government Service

in Asia and Jamaica

My 17 Years with USAID

The Good and the Bad

Our Aid programs accomplished a lot. We helped up grade nutrition and almost doubled rice production in many countries. We also goofed. We thought we could eradicate malaria but failed because we forgot to consult the villagers whose houses we sprayed. Worse, we often acted like Gods. Only we Americans knew the answers.

My 17 Years with USAID is a memoir about my service with the U. S. Agency of International Development (USAID) as a Communications Media Advisor in Indonesia, Thailand, Jamaica and the Philippines.

We Tried

Government Service in India and Nepal

is a memoir of my work with the the Department of State's Information Service in Madras, India, and Kathmandu, Nepal during the early fifties.

We Tried is an intimate account of people -- starving Indian villagers, the Nepalese royal family, missionaries, diplomats, and Sherpa Norgay Tenzing and Sir Edmund Hilary, the conquerers of Mt. Everest.
